Instructional Faculty applications are welcome year-round with teaching assignments made during Spring semester as positions become available.
Expectations
- Design, plan, and deliver strategic instruction
- Actively foster and drive students’ in-class engagement and participation
- Co-facilitate design thinking activities with PEs in class with ~20 students
- Coordinate cohort-building in the classroom
- Encourage and support PEs facilitation of outside cohort-building activities
- Plan and discuss course lesson plans with assigned PEs and support their participation in planned activities
- Mandatory participation in UM course progress surveys
- Execute the common course syllabus
- Provide constructive feedback and brainstorm alternative approaches with other IFs and PEs in meetings
Eligibility
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (awarded or in progress)
- Must be a UM Employee who has completed their probationary period
- Supervisor/Chair approval
Demonstrated Competencies and Experience
- Comfort with ambiguity
- Demonstrated adaptability
- Employs a fail-forward, open mindset
- Willingness to work with incoming students
- Successfully plans and executes discussion-based class sessions
- Ability to collaborate with undergraduate PEs on course content
- Ability to enable and support PEs in leading group activities
- Desire to serve as a mentor to new students
- Interest in connecting with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations
- Enthusiasm for UM and the first-year experience
- Ability to commit adequate time and effort to fulfill the role (e.g., participation in required training, meetings, and preparatory activities)
Compensation
- $2,000 gross compensation for one 2-credit section of COLS 194.
Time Commitment
- Training Sessions
- Course Prep
- 4 hours/week of instruction and meetings Autumn semester
- 80 minutes X 2 (COLS 194 course meeting times)
- Meeting with Peer Educators
- Instructional discussions, consultations, and training as needed
- Grading and student communication
