Faculty-Directed Program Assistant

Position Overview

 

This position serves as an Assistant for Education Abroad Faculty-Directed Study Abroad Programs and provides an exciting opportunity to gain experience with faculty-directed study abroad programs in University of Montana’s (UM) Education Abroad Office. This position will enhance individual skills in interpersonal communication, database management, customer relations, organization, and program coordination. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing logistics for the faculty-directed programs, preparing and updating marketing materials, and maintaining clear communication with all participants, program director, and other campus units involved with faculty-directed study abroad programs. Good computer and customer service skills are critical, and the successful applicant should be very familiar with Microsoft Office suite. This position provides the opportunity to enhance individual skills in organization and student coordination, presentation technology, interpersonal communication, instructional techniques, online learning, writing, public speaking, and logistics.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinate all Faculty-Directed program needs including: creating program brochures, marketing programs, managing student applications on Terra Dotta, ensuring course registration, billing participant program fees, enrolling participants in GeoBlue insurance, assisting with the international Travel Registry, creating and updating educational and orientation materials, and providing accounting support for all Faculty Directed program funds
  • Build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, students, and program vendors
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

Candidates for this position must meet the following:

  • Be a UM student currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate degree program at UM, and be in good academic and judicial standing
  • Must be available to work at least 12-15 hours a week. There may be occasional evening and/or weekend hours
  • Must enthusiastically and accurately promote the concept of education abroad to UM students, faculty, and staff
  • Have a high level of written and oral communication skills
  • Be detail-oriented, highly organized and resourceful
  • Excellent computer skills

Additional Desirable Attributes and Background

  • Desire to work with students who express interest in overseas study and enthusiasm for education abroad and its value
  • Experience with other cultures and intercultural situations, including studying, living, and/or traveling abroad, learning another language, work abroad (paid or volunteer), etc.
  • Patience for helping students clarify their own needs, best interests, capacities, and resources in order to make informed choices and decisions about available study abroad opportunities
