2019 Alum Samantha Prins to Begin Ph.D. in Linguistics

UM alum Samantha Prins graduated with an MA in Linguistics in 2019. Her research centered on Niitsi’powahsin (Blackfoot), culminating in her thesis, "Final Vowel Devoicing in Blackfoot," chaired by Dr. Mizuki Miyashita. She was awarded second place for Best Student Presentation at the 2020 annual meeting of Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages of the Americas. She worked with UM Linguistics faculty on various projects, and in 2018 was nominated for Student Employee of the Year. She currently serves as the local program coordinator for the Institute on Collaborative Language Research (CoLang) 2020 and took a lead role in organizing the June 2020 web series. This fall, she will begin her PhD in Linguistics at the University of Arizona, where she received both a fellowship and graduate assistantship. Congratulations Sam!
