Tribal Circles

Overview

Illustrated map of the ethnobotany garden.

The Ethnobotany Garden contains 8 Tribal Circles, each representing an ecoregion of Montana and the Reservation lands in each of those parts of the state. Within each circle are plants native to that ecoregion and important to Native people.

Tribal nations are sovereign nations within the United States and each Tribal nation may be made up of one or more tribes.

The locations of the modern day reservations do not necessarily reflect the traditional land of the tribes for whom the land has been reserved.

It is important to acknowledge and always remember that UM is located on the unceded traditional land of the Salish people.

Use the navigation bar to the left to explore each of the Tribal Circles.
