Hello again Student,
Welcome again to the Griz family! We have some great information regarding New Student Orientation for you. Move-in day will be here before you know it, and we want you to be ready to start your college journey with everything you need to be successful.
But before we get to all that, here a couple things for you to do today:
- Complete Online Bear Tracks if you haven’t already. This is how you will get registered in your fall courses, and is your first step to becoming a UM Grizzly.
- Register for New Student Orientation
- Select your Big Sky Experience (register for the Freshman Wilderness Experience now) and mark your calendars for July 1 when BSE selection opens.
There’s a lot happening in the world right now, and we recognize it is an odd time to be asking you to think ahead to August with so many things changing daily. We are planning for all new students to attend our award winning on-campus New Student Orientation Aug. 24-28.
The Big Sky Experience, an dimmers program you will participate in with a small group of about 20 other new students, takes place the first few days of NSO. And you are able to choose in which BSE you take part. Here are some choices:
Freshman Wilderness Experience (FWE)
This is an off-campus outdoor wilderness trip that operates on a slightly different timeline, and has an additional cost associated with it. Students will spend four days and three nights in the backcountry, either backpacking or canoeing. Students will need to move in early — Friday, Aug. 21.
Registration is now open, and spaces are limited. For more information on FWE and to register, please visit our website. If you have FEW-specific questions, please call the Outdoor Program a call at 406-243-5176.
Big Sky Experience
A majority of students will participate in on-campus and in-community experiences that run during the week of orientation, which begins with move-in Monday, Aug. 24. Students will be able to select their desired site July1. Spots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The experiences will fall into six different categories: Business and Entrepreneurship, Communication and Artistic Expression, Environment and Sustainability, Health and Human Development, Science and Technology, or Justice, Policy, and Public Service.
