UM student leads group of new freshman at their Big Sky Experience at SpectrUM Discovery Area in 2019

Hello,

We are gearing up for an exciting week of New Student Orientation, and one of our favorite activities you get to participate in as a new student is the Big Sky Experience. These campus and community immersion experiences will allow you to explore your new home, learn a bit about a local organization and contribute to some lasting and impactful projects.

Each student will be assigned to a Big Sky Experience site on a first-come, first-served basis as you check-in for New Student Orientation from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23. If you are in the marching band, athletics, Freshman Wilderness Experience or another program with special arrival instructions, please follow the guidance given for your group to be assigned to a site.

In preparation, take a look at a sneak preview of available Big Sky Experience sites! Arriving with a few ideas of a site you would like to participate in will help expedite the check-in process.

For those who were not able to complete their pre-orientation tasks and register for classes before the July 30 deadline, that’s OK!

First-year students still have access to Bear Tracks, and transfer students can still access Online New Student Orientation. If you are not yet registered for classes, please continue working through your required tasks so when you arrive on campus you can meet with an academic advisor and register for classes.

In the meantime, here are some great resources:

See you soon, Griz!

Warmly,
