Students sit in circle outside of main hall at orientation 2019

Hello again,

Welcome again to the Griz family! We have some great information regarding New Student Orientation for you.

But before we get to all that, here a couple of things for you to do today:

There’s a lot happening in the world right now, and we recognize it is an odd time to be asking you to think ahead to August with so many things changing daily. We are planning for all new students to attend our award-winning on-campus New Student Orientation Aug. 23-27. Parents and families are invited to attend special programming Aug, 23-24.

The Big Sky Experience (BSE), an immersive program you will participate in with a small group of about 20 other new students, takes place the first few days of orientation. Students will be able to select from a variety of options including environment and sustainability, science and technology, business and entrepreneurship, communication and artistic expression, and more!

At UM, we get students out into the world to experience hands-on learning as much as possible. First-year students are invited to consider the Freshman Wilderness Experience, which is an off-campus outdoor wilderness adventure that takes place prior to your required orientation program. Students will need to move in early — Thursday, Aug. 19., but will be back to campus in time to join New Student Orientation with their fellow classmates. Registration is now open, and spaces are limited for these canoeing and backpacking trips. For more information on FWE and to register, please visit their website.

Let us know if there is anything we can help with regarding your transition to the University of Montana. We are here for you.

Talk to you soon, Griz!
