Students gather outside of Main Hall during orientation in 2019

Hello,

We are super excited to welcome you to in-person New Student Orientation on campus this fall! Residence hall move-in day will be here before you know it, and we want you to be ready to start your college journey with everything you need to be successful.

Now that you are able to move forward with next steps and take care of business – first-year students should complete Online Bear Tracks, while transfer students should complete the Online New Student Orientation – it’s time to start thinking about what comes after!  For incoming students like you that is New Student Orientation and the Big Sky Experience.

The Big Sky Experience (BSE) is an immersive program that takes place the first few days of orientation. You’ll choose your BSE from a variety of options and participate in activities with a small group of about 20 other new students. Select from options including environment and sustainability, science and technology, business and entrepreneurship, communication and artistic expression, and more!

Another opportunity for first-year students to consider is the Freshman Wilderness Experience, which is an off-campus outdoor wilderness adventure that takes place prior to UM’s required orientation program. Students will need to move in early — Thursday, Aug. 19, and will then embark on a backpacking or canoeing trip, returning to campus in time to join New Student Orientation. Registration is now open and FWE spaces are limited. For more information and to register, visit the Outdoor Program website.

Let us know if there is anything we can help with regarding your transition to the University of Montana. We are here for you.

Talk to you soon, Griz!
