The Oval: The Undergraduate Literary Magazine of the University of Montana

About the Oval

Submissions, editing, marketing, design, and distribution are all handled by University of Montana undergraduates. In their free time, on their bikes, in stolen hours between classes, on sacrificed Sundays, in common rooms and vacant classrooms, each year, The Oval is sewn together by the tireless work of young writers who sense the vitality of creative craft. Providing a platform for the work of their peers, they feel, is essential.

The Oval is published annually in the spring. Submissions for short fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and visual art are accepted between November and February each year. See our submissions page or visit the Oval blog for information about guidelines and submission deadlines

You can pick up copies of recent issues on campus at the University Bookstore in the University Center, at Fact and Fiction downtown, The Book Exchange on Brooks St., or at our table in the UC.

Special thanks to Matt Riley for his image on the background of this site. His art and much more can be found in Volume 3 of The Oval.
