Please join us for a seminar and lecture with Andrea Wulf, who was born in India, moved to Germany as a child, and now lives in London. After training as a design historian at the Royal College of Art in London, she became a full-time writer. In 2013, she was the Eccles British Library Writer in Residence and is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Her books include Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature and the Shaping of the American Nation (2011) and The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World (2015), both of which were on the New York Times best-seller list. The Invention of Nature has won many awards, including the Royal Society Science Book Prize, the Royal Geographical Society’s Nessa Award, the Costa Biography Award, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. It was chosen as one of the Ten Best Books of 2015 by the New York Times and has been published in twenty-four countries. It was ranked in the Top Ten Books in Germany for more than six months. She co-presented in 2014 a four-part BBC TV garden series and appears regularly on radio and television. Her popular lectures attract large audiences in the United States and Europe. She has written articles and reviews for many newspapers, including The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Atlantic, and the New York Times.

In addition, that evening at 8:00 P.M. in the Dennison Theatre she will deliver the Brennan Guth Memorial Lecture in Environmental Philosophy, in collaboration with the Flathead Lake Biological Station: “The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World.”
