Spring 2022 Academic Calendar

Dear colleagues,

As you know, universities in the Montana University System (MUS) adjusted their academic calendars last year as a way of reducing COVID-related risks to students and employees. We are pleased to announce that the 2021-2022 academic calendar is confirmed. We announced the fall 2021 calendar some weeks ago and have received confirmation of the spring 2022 calendar, below:

Spring 2022 Calendar (16 calendar weeks: excluding spring break; including finals)

  • Monday, January 17 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day – No Classes, Offices Closed
  • Tuesday, January 18 – First Day of Classes
  • Monday, February 21 – Presidents' Day – No Classes, Offices Closed
  • Monday-Friday, March 21-25 – Spring Break - No Classes (aligns with MCPS Spring Break)
  • Friday, May 6 – Last Day of Regular Classes
  • Monday-Friday, May 9-13 – Final Exams
  • Saturday, May 14 – Spring Commencement

Universities in the MUS will not offer classes in the period between fall and spring semesters next academic year; i.e., UM will not offer Winter Session in January 2022.

Prior to the pandemic, the Registrars for all MUS campuses collaborated closely on setting academic calendars several years in advance. We intend to return to this practice in the coming year. In addition, the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education plans to create a working group composed of MUS representatives to study future calendar options.

All information related to the academic calendar will be shared via campus communication and posted on the Academic Calendar website.

Sincerely,

The Office of the Provost
