Branch Center
At the University Center one of our core values is Diversity. The Branch Center is a center for student community and belonging at the University of Montana.
The Branch Center is dedicated to Dr. Theresa Branch, former vice president of Student Affairs, who wanted to create a place on campus which celebrated diversity. Branch served from 2003 to 2016 as the first female African-American in the position.

Common Space Features
The Branch Center’s common space is available to all UM students to host student group activities, study, and gather with peers.
Features of the space include:
- Study and lounge areas
- Free school supplies cabinet
- Free menstrual product cabinet
- Computers
- Bulletin board posting areas
- Printer/copy machine, popcorn machine
- Smart TV
- Kitchen with a microwave & fridge

Popcorn Thursdays
The Branch Center provides free popcorn every Thursday from 11-1:30pm. There will be fresh popcorn ready for you to scoop and eat on the way to class! -
Smudging Space
Branch Center Smudge Space
The Smudge Space is a designated space (UM Policy #1016) for the UM campus community to smudge. Smudging is a traditional practice used by Indigenous people for prayer or to cleanse a person or place by burning sacred plants. The UM campus community is invited to use this space and provides smudging items for use.

The University's college radio is located in the Branch Center room 208. They are a non-commercial student run radio station, committed to providing diverse and refreshing programming.

The allocation of office space supports ASUM Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) in achieving their missions while aligning with the Branch Center’s values.

All space at the Branch Center is university-owned; therefore, final authority for the use and allocation of this space rests with the University Center. Student organizations receiving space must comply with the guidelines outlined in this agreement.
