Wilderness Management Graduate Certificate
Advance your conservation career!
Nearly 112-million acres of public land in the USA are designated as wilderness. Many millions more are managed as potential wilderness areas. These areas are the jewels of American public lands, representing vital ecological value, unparalleled recreation opportunities, and deep cultural importance.
Any career in conservation—public or private—is served by a deep and practical understanding of the governance and management of wilderness areas.
The Wilderness Management Graduate Certificate is a 15-credit graduate program that prepares students for leadership in the field of wilderness stewardship and governance.
Through interdisciplinary coursework, students develop a deep understanding of all aspects of wilderness management, from the broad history and philosophy of wilderness preservation to the practical expertise of the laws, policies, and processes unique to wilderness management.
Online Courses, Flexible Schedules
The Wilderness Management Graduate Certificate is a fully online program. You can study from home or while travelling for work. Many students are working professionals in land management fields, both with federal and state agencies and in private conservation work.
Our courses can be completed at your own pace. If work takes you into the field, you can return right where you left off.
Each course is designed to meet the needs of a broad range of students, including members of conservation groups and interested citizens, outdoor recreation planners and educators, and specialized agency professions deepening their expertise and furthering their careers.
