保護者の皆様、ようこそモンタナ大学へ　

皆様がモンタナ大学を選ばれたことを大変嬉しく思います。保護者の皆様は今までも、そしてこれからも、お子様を大学に通わせるために大きな役割を担われていくことと思います。大切なお子様を他の国へ送り出すことを楽しみにされる一方、たくさんの質問をおもちになることでしょう。お子様がより良い大学生活を送るために、モンタナ大学は留学生のみなさんを精一杯サポートしてまいります。

モンタナ大学は美しい並木に囲まれた犯罪率のとても低い地域にあります。大学には信頼できる警察官が駐在しており、24時間体制で業務にあたっています。グリズウォークと呼ばれるサービスでは、特別な訓練を受けた学生が、校内を歩くことに不安や恐怖を感じている学生をエスコートします。キャンパスでは安心して快適に暮らすことができています。

アメリカで勉強するということは、多くの困難に立ち向かうことでもあります。大学生にとって学生時代は学力を向上させながら、自分自身を成長させ大人へと変わっていく時期です。子育てを終えた保護者の皆様にとっても、これからは子どもを導くアドバイザー的な役割をする変わり目の時期となるでしょう。皆様にとって、お子様が学業を成就し自信に満ち溢れた大人に成長することはとても大切なことです。

留学生の数の多さを誇るモンタナ大学は、様々な国から留学生を受け入れ全面的にサポートしています。毎年11,000人の学生が学ぶキャンパスでは、世界の70ヶ国をイメージすることができ、毎年夏には約63名の新しい留学生がモンタナ大学で学ぶためにミズーラへ集まります。

伝統

モンタナ大学にとって「伝統」はとても大切です。私たちは自分達を「グリズリーズ」と呼んでいます。スクールカラーはあずき色と銀色で、大学のマスコットキャラクターは「モンティ」といいます。大学のスポーツチームは「ビッグ・スカイ・カンファレンス」 (Big Sky Conference) というリーグに所属しています。

普段私たちは大学のスクールカラーが使われたTシャツやジャケットを校内で着ています。世界中どこにいても、モンタナ大学の帽子や服を着ている人を見かけると、私たちは「Go Griz!」と声を掛け合います（Goは「頑張れ」や「それいけ」の意味、Grizは「グリズリー」の略です）。

障害学生支援部 (DSS)

モンタナ大学の障害学生支援部（DSS)では、障害のある学生がモンタナ大学で平等に教育に参加できるよう、支援を行なっています。 教職員と連携しながら、障害のある学生にとって親しみやすく学びやすい環境を提供できるよう、全学年を通じての学習プログラムの構築、バリアフリーの環境整備に努めています。 各学生の個々のニーズに寄り添った支援を提供しており、モンタナ大学に在籍している学生数の約13％がDSSを利用しています。 障害のある学生の自己決定、責任力、自立をDSSでは尊重しています。

モンタナ大学は米国の障害学生支援のモデルと考慮され、日本の大学関係者、研究者がモンタナ大学を訪れました。2018年と2019年と2年連続で、米国で最も障害者に優しいオンラインカレッジの一校として選ばれました。さらに、米国・エジプト教育イニシアチブ公立大学奨学金プログラムを通して、障害学生サービスセンタースタディツアー開催地として選ばれました。

For Parents 

We are excited that your student has chosen the University of Montana. We understand the important role you have played in preparing your student to attend college. We also know how important it is for parents, the university and students to work together to make sure that your student is successful. Sending your student to a new country is an exciting process and we know that you have many questions. 

Studying in the U.S. is life-changing for students. For them, this will be a time of personal and academic growth and transition into adulthood. For you, this will also be a time of transition from parenting a child to building a relationship as a mentor and adviser. You will always have an important role to play in your student's life and one of the best things you can do is to help them become successful and confident adults. 

The University of Montana is proud of its international student population. We welcome and support international students from all over the world. More than 11,000 students enroll at UM each year and of those, we have 70 countries represented and about 63 students arrive each summer to pursue their academic goals at UM.

Traditions

Traditions are very important at UM. We call ourselves Grizzlies and our colors are maroon and silver. Our mascot is Monte and we belong to the Big Sky Conference. 

Wearing UM clothing on campus and in our daily lives is normal. Wherever we go in the world, when we see someone wearing an UM hat or shirt it's common to say "Go Griz!" to them. They will always answer "Go Griz" with a big smile.

Giving to UM

Being a Grizzly brings together more than 104,000 living UM graduates, called alumni, worldwide. They represent some of the biggest names in their industries — those who have won Pulitzer Prizes, Emmys, Grammys and Oscars. We have several Rhodes Scholars in our midst.

Giving their time, talent, and financial resources are a few of the ways that Grizzlies support UM. The UM Foundation and Alumni Association encourage you to consider giving to the university to enhance the UM experience for students, faculty and staff.

Disability Services for Students (DSS)

Disability Services for Students works with students, faculty, and staff to ensure that programs at the University of Montana are accessible and usable by students with disabilities. We strive to create a welcoming and hospitable learning environment at our university. Disability Services works with each student on a case-by-case basis to provide uniquely tailored modifications and services. The office serves approximately 13% of the student population. Our practice emphasizes the student's self-determination, responsibility, and independence.

Faculty members and staff from Japanese universities visited and studied the Disability Services office so that they were able to establish their disability services in their institutions. In 2018 and 2019, the University of Montana was identified as one of the most disability-friendly online colleges in the U.S. Recently, the UM was selected to host the Disability Services Study Tour on behalf of the U.S.-Egypt Education Initiative Public University Scholarships Program.
