Personal Summary

Dr. Griggs is the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands . He has been an active member of the UM School of Music since 2004.  Prior to joining the UM faculty, he taught junior high school band & choir at Payson Jr. High and high school band at Weber High School and Roy High School.  Dr. Griggs studied music education at Brigham Young University where he received a Bachelor of Music Education degree (1992).  He studied Instrumental Conducting at the University of Northern Colorado where he earned a Masters of Music degree (2001) and a Doctor of Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting and Music Theory & Composition (2004). 

At the University of Montana, Dr. Griggs conducts the University Concert Band, Grizzly Marching Band, UM Pep Band, and teaches Marching Band Techniques, Upper Brass Methods and Lower Brass Methods and some trumpet lessons. He was the Coordinator for the UM Summer Music Camps for 10 years and is the Co-Chair of the Western Montana State Music Festival.  Dr. Griggs is an active guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout Montana and the western United States and performs with several ensembles on trumpet.  He holds memberships in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and Montana Bandmasters Association (MBA) and is the Montana State Chair of the National Band Association (NBA) and College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), .
