Program Overview
CDL Montana, a program offered and administered at UM Bitterroot by UM Missoula College, provides accelerated, high-quality training for individuals pursuing a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. With locations in Missoula and Hamilton, the program integrates online Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) theory with hands-on, behind-the-wheel experience - effectively preparing students for readiness on the road. With a strong focus on safety, professionalism, and preparedness, CDL Montana supports students from enrollment through licensure.

UM Missoula College is certified to provide training under the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act by the Montana Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) and is also approved by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for CDL training in Montana.

Program Cost
$6,000 per participant; cost includes tuition, on-line learning hub, and field training hours.
*Program fee does not include background check, motor vehicle record, Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical, drug screening sample & results fees, Learner’s Permit, or TSA HAZPRINT
Classroom Instruction - 10 online instructional hours
Self paced; Additional Hazardous Materials (TSA HAZPRINT) online training can be purchased for $300
Learner's Permit
Exam taken at state motor vehicle division office; exam follows completion of online learning. Learner's Permit fee is not included in program fees.
Field Training
One-on-one training with instructor. Field training follows earning of Learner's Permit; drive time is scheduled with the instructor.
State CDL Exam
Scheduled after completion of field training; exam is taken at West Campus of Missoula College or the MDOT state facility in Missoula; instructor accompanies student; vehicle used during exam is UM Bitterroot tractor trailer; exam cost is already included in training fees.
