Why offer a course through Specialty & Extended Programming? We provide a number of options to enhance the administrative process.

Consultation & Support
We will work with you every step of the way to ensure that your course meets the necessary standards, registration and payments work seamlessly, and transcripts are made available. We can also field relevant questions from learners at ExtendedLearningSupport@umontana.edu or (406) 243-4444.

Noncredit
Education such as professional development, continuing education, and validated skills training which do not offer college credit is called noncredit programming. These courses are ideal for those who want to gain general knowledge, learn a new skill, upgrade existing abilities, or enrich their understanding about a wide range of topics.
Noncredit classes are usually not applicable towards a college degree, although some provide a certificate or digital badge upon completion.

Extended Credit
Courses offered by partners that meet UM’s academic standards may be eligible for Extended Credit through an academic department at UM. Students who earn Extended Credit will be able to order an official UM transcript for their coursework, even if they are not an admitted UM student.
Extended Credit is subject to approval by academic departments and includes a credit recording fee. For more information, please review our S&EP FAQs.

Registration & Payment
Students can register directly on our online catalog, or we can register students in bulk behind the scenes. Fees can be charged directly to students who register online, or we can invoice your organization. All of our systems are secure and confidential.

Canvas Learning Management System
If your course has an online component, you may be able to use UM’s Canvas Learning Management System. EII’s Learning Experience and Design (LEAD) team can help you develop a robust and accessible online course for an additional fee.

Digital Badges
Digital badges are virtual learning records certified by the University of Montana. Typically related to career readiness, workforce development, or industry-related outcomes, digital badges help learners articulate the relevant skills and learning outcomes they have attained through learning experiences to prospective and current employers.
