Youth Safety at UM
Dear colleagues,
Youth safety on campus is a shared responsibility, and it begins with each one of us.
UM’s new Youth Safety & Compliance Office (YSCO) helps youth-serving programs operate safely and effectively through guidance, best practices, and support for compliance with University standards and applicable laws.
All covered camps and programs involving youth on campus must register with YSCO.
Last summer, YSCO partnered with program leaders to provide guidance and compliance support for 70+ registered youth camps and programs at UM. Nearly 1,000 staff members, faculty, students, and volunteers provided supervision and mentorship to more than 5,000 youth participants. These young people came to campus to play sports, develop new skills, practice their talents, expand their knowledge, and have fun.
Throughout the academic year, UM welcomes youth on campus for events like Model UN, Academic WorldQuest, the Nutcracker, and the Montana Science Fair. Together with our summer programs, these experiences introduce thousands of young people to UM and help them see themselves as future Grizzlies.
YSCO reflects the University's shared commitment to the safety and well-being of the young people we welcome on campus. We are grateful for your help in spreading awareness about this requirement and supporting youth safety at UM.

Thank you for your dedication to making the University of Montana a safe and welcoming place for young people to learn, grow, and thrive.
