Expanded staff representation
Updated Staff Senate bylaws now allow contract professionals and Letter of Appointment employees to serve on Staff Senate, expanding representation and advocacy to nearly all UM employees who are not faculty.
Continued advocacy for the staff fee waiver
Staff Senate successfully advocated for fees to be waived for employees using their tuition waiver benefits. Started last year Trey Magnuson’s leadership, this is a great example of shared governance partners working together for achieving a common goal. Special thanks to Paul Lasiter and the Business Services team for their support and collaboration.
Increased visibility across campus
Staff Senate was a key partner at campus events like the employee basketball game, Share Kindness Day, and the Wellcheck table. Robust outreach ensures Staff Senate continues to promote staff issues and strengthen campus connections.
Strengthened staff voice in major searches
Staff Senate representatives played a meaningful role on search committees for high-level positions such as the AVP for Human Resources, VP for Marketing and Communications, and UM President. Staff Senate advocates for representation on major recruitment efforts.
