What do you most enjoy about practicing Family Medicine?

The connection with people and the ability to help them live their best lives.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I enjoy helping the residents see what they already know and working with them to think about concepts in a way that connects the abstract idea with the real patient.

What brought you to Montana?

I came for residency in 2004 from the great state of Wisconsin and never left.

Why did you choose to be part of the FMRWM?

The people! The chance to be a part of a residency program committed to serving rural and underserved communities. The opportunity to share my knowledge in addiction medicine to train the next generation of physicians.

What are some of your interests outside of the clinic or classroom?

I love to be in our raft on the river or Nordic skiing in the trees. I actually enjoy driving all over Montana watching various kid sporting events as well.

What do you love about Western Montana?

Cool mornings, beautiful light, space to be quiet and a billion trees.

What is your favorite:

  • Book? A River Runs Through It and Other Stories. Actually, the short story USFS 1919, which is part of the Other is one of my favorites. Also loving the Shadow and Bone trilogy recently
  • Album? Currently between Tyler Childers’ Purgatory and Chris Stapleton’s Starting Over
  • Movie? I usually fall asleep in all movies, public and private but I still laugh at The Big Lebowski
