Struggling with Classes?

The following are some options for you if your courses are not going as well as you planned:

Attend Instructors' Office Hours

Talking with your instructor is the best thing you can do when you think you are facing academic difficulty. Having a discussion about the areas you are struggling in and providing specific examples can help them re-explain materials and suggest additional resources. Establishing this relationship can significantly improve your success in classes.

Notify your advisor

Your academic advisor is an excellent resource if you are struggling academically. They can guide you on how to talk with your instructors about your challenges and recommend additional resources on campus to support you. If you have spoken with your instructor and advisor and dropping the course seems like the best option, advisors can help you navigate the drop process.

Find resources to support you

UM offers many different forms of support. You can find some additional tutoring through the Writing and Public Speaking Center, Math Learning Center, or the student-led Study Jam. If your study skills are not where you want them to be, consider enrolling in C&I 160. We also have several offices that may be able to support you like the Office of Disability Equity and TRiO Student Support Services.
