In the College of Humanities and Sciences, academic advising is a partnership. Advisors have extensive knowledge of academic programs and activities and help students maximize their education and create opportunities beyond college.

Academic Advising
Students can expect one-on-one advising and personalized advice for courses, major selection, and academic development.

Advising Center
Housed in the Dennis and Gretchen Eck Liberal Arts Building, students can meet with their academic advisor or drop-in for general questions.

Student Resources
Advisors are equipped to help students find and utilize campus resources to ensure students' success personally and academically.

Career Development
Students can work with their advisor to help them identify opportunities and experiences that help them prepare for life after college. Students can also go to the College of Humanities and Sciences Career Planning Center to find internships and jobs, along with personalized guidance to improve their application and interview skills.

As a student in the College of Humanities and Sciences, you have access to professional academic advisors, as well as staff in other offices that can help you navigate college. Whether you need help with general academic advising, deciding on a major, sorting out transfer credit, looking for referrals, choosing classes for next semester, or exploring careers, we've got you covered.
It is common for students to have more than one advisor during their time at UM.
Students generally work with their professional academic advisor/s first. To make sure you stay on track for graduation and are aware of opportunities for academic, personal and career development, meet with your advisor early and often.
