MISSOULA – Students at Fort Peck Community College can now move directly into a bachelor’s degree program at the University of Montana College of Business under a new articulation agreement signed by the two schools.
The agreement creates a 2+2 pathway: Students who earn an administration associate degree or a technology associate of applied science degree at Fort Peck can transfer to UM and complete a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in business management in two additional years.
Fort Peck graduates do not have to leave northeast Montana to finish. UM’s business management degree is offered fully online and asynchronously, so students can complete the final two years from home while working, or study in person in Missoula.
“This partnership means a student can start in Poplar and finish with a business degree without having to choose between their education and their community,” said Suzanne Tilleman, the Sprunk and Burnham Endowed Dean of the UM College of Business. “Our mission is to serve the entire state of Montana, and this collaboration with Fort Peck is vital to that goal.”
Fort Peck Community College, chartered by the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes in 1978, serves the Fort Peck Reservation and surrounding communities from campuses in Poplar and Wolf Point.
Under the agreement, students should apply to UM by Nov. 1 for fall admission to receive the best consideration for financial aid and scholarships. Applicants can indicate on the application whether they plan to attend in person or online only, select business management as their major and complete the associate degree by the end of the semester in which they apply. Students who transfer before finishing the associate degree may still pursue the major after completing 20 credits.
The bachelor’s degree requires 120 credits, including at least 60 in business courses and 39 at the upper-division level.
Along with the business management major, the UM College of Business offers seven other majors from which students can choose to study. The college has dedicated staff to help students turn their degrees into careers, and 94% of alumni are working or in graduate school within six months of graduation.
