"The University of Montana's Orthopedic Residency Program provided a variety of experiences that aided my professional development, including working alongside a group of highly skilled physical therapists, one-on-one clinical mentoring, teaching DPT students in the classroom and the clinic, advanced education courses, community service projects, and physician shadowing in multiple settings. The curriculum significantly enhanced my orthopedic knowledge base and prepared me well for the clinical specialty examination. My clinical reasoning skills have improved in several ways that I don't think would have been possible without the focused mentoring and advanced education this residency provided. My manual therapy skills, patient communication ability, examination procedures, and efficiency in the clinic have all made substantial improvements as well. Furthermore, I've established a solid framework for continued professional growth and have no doubt that all the time and energy spent will benefit me throughout my career. "

“The University of Montana Physical Therapy Residency was a challenging yet tremendous period of personal and professional growth. The curriculum and clinical mentoring were excellent. Collaborating alongside a diverse team of knowledgeable and experienced clinicians, faculty and research scientists, truly enhanced my knowledge of orthopedic physical therapy, clinical reasoning and patient care. The clinical mentoring sessions were the most impactful experience, as they challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and become open to receiving valuable feedback and guidance to help me learn and develop as a clinician. The residency allowed me to pursue my interest in clinical education and teaching and gain valuable experience serving as a lab instructor, guest lecturer, and clinical preceptor for students in the DPT program. I am confident that the U of M orthopedic residency has prepared me well as I transition into my new position and will help me to continue to grow and develop as a physical therapist.”
