Getting Started
Your department and Human Resource Services will help you obtain all the resources necessary to hit the ground running, including:
- Process the hiring paperwork that will create your account in the Human Resource Services (HRS) system.
- This generates your employee identification number (often called a 790 number) and
- defines your eligibility for benefits.
- Provide information on a number of practical matters, such as how to:
- obtain an e-mail account and a umontana e-mail alias
- access office space and get keys
- set up office equipment such as computers and phones
- contact your IT support staff
- create index codes (teaching/research-related accounts, if applicable)
- obtain a Procard (credit card for business expenses, if applicable)
Required IDs and Logins
Griz Card
You will need your 790 number (your employee identification number) in order to purchase a Griz Card.
Your Griz Card is your official UM identification card, and provides access to a number of UM services and resources such as:
- Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library
- Campus Recreation Center (with paid membership)
- University Dining Services
NetID
The NetID allows access to many UM systems and applications using the same login and password.
The NetID format is two letters (first initial, last initial) and six numbers, followed by the letter “e” for employees (e.g. "ab123456e").
The initial password is the last six digits of your University ID (the 790 number).
Cyberbear
One of the secure web applications you can access with your NetID, CyberBear provides individual access to UM employee job and benefits information.
Linked to the Registrar’s Office, it also provides tools for faculty and advisors to manage class rosters, grading and communication.
