The Collective Bargaining Agreements
The Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) help define roles and responsibilities for faculty members and administrators.
The CBA is an agreement entered into by the Commissioner of Higher Education, as agent for the Board of Regents, on behalf of the University of Montana, and the University Faculty Association. It covers a number of topics, including:
- faculty rights and working conditions
- academic freedom and responsibility
- faculty evaluation procedures
- faculty contract obligations
- compensation
- leave of absence
- grievances
University Faculty Association
The University Faculty Association (UFA) is the bargaining unit that represents the interests of the majority of UM faculty members in negotiating the terms and conditions of their contract with the Montana University System.

Missoula College Faculty Association
The Missoula College Faculty Association (MCFA) is the bargaining unit that represents the interests of the faculty members at Missoula College in negotiating the terms and conditions of their contract with the Montana University System.
Faculty Senate
Faculty members play a significant role in shared governance at the University of Montana through participation in the Faculty Senate and numerous subcommittees, such as:
- Academic Standards and Curriculum Review Committee (ASCRC)
- Executive Committee of the Senate (ECOS)
- Graduate Council
- Writing Committee
- General Education Committee
Office of Organizational Learning and Development
The Office of Organizational Learning and Development (OOLD) provides opportunities for UM employees to grow professionally and personally, and serves as a resource for faculty on matters such as:
- Professional Development
- Teaching & Assessment, including tips on using Moodle (UM Online's Learning Management System)
- Mansfield Library
The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library at the University of Montana provides an array of information resources and services in support of the curricular and research programs of the University. These resources include traditional library collections and electronic access to networked research databases, e-journal packages, electronic journal subscriptions, media materials, and a web-based integrated library catalog. Library services include in-depth research and reference assistance, an extensive instruction program integrated into the university curriculum, and full-service computing and copying facilities. Services for distance education students and faculty are available to provide an equitable educational experience.
FERPA Training
All faculty are required to complete an online training on FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act,) enacted in 1974. FERPA is a set of regulations that applies to those institutions, such as the University of Montana, that receive funding from the Department of Education.

Discrimination Prevention Training
All University employees are required to complete an online training on discrimination and harassment prevention. The training lasts less than 30 minutes and will provide you with tools to identify, respond to and prevent discrimination and sexual harassment at UM.
UM employees are mandated by law and policy to contact UM's Title IX Coordinator within 24 hours if a student discloses to them instances of sex-based discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual violence, relationship or dating violence and stalking.
More information will be available from your department chair and Human Resource Services (x6766). If you are uncomfortable with taking an online training of this sort, please contact the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action at x5710 to make alternate arrangements.
Disability Services for Students
This office ensures program access to UM by students with disabilities, and provides advice to faculty members about teaching students with disabilities as well as valuable information about how to help students with disabilities succeed academically.

Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
The ORSP assists the University community in administering external funding for research, instruction, and public service activities, and ensures that all sponsored projects comply with appropriate University guidelines and policies, as well as federal, state, and sponsor regulations, in an effort to protect institutional eligibility for external funding. International Opportunities
UM faculty members can participate in a number of international activities, such as faculty exchange and international activity funding, through the Global Engagement Office.
Office for Student Success
OSS offers advising and tutoring services to students in areas such as writing, public speaking, and math.
This office also helps students determine whether they meet prerequisites for their courses.
Experiential Learning and Career Services
ELCS helps students choose and engage in extracurricular activities such as study abroad, internships, civic engagement, undergraduate research & creative scholarship, and field experience.
Registrar
The Registrar’s Office provides information to faculty about course catalogs, schedules, classroom assignments, and grading deadlines.
