J.D. Heilprin has spent his career at the convergence between traditional and new media. Over the course of the last eight years, Heilprin has worked with major media and entertainment companies to create new paradigms for the delivery of music and entertainment products. Heilprin currently serves as strategic advisor to Deutsch Advertising, Advertising Age and ADWEEK's 2002 National Advertising Agency of the Year, regarding digital and convergent opportunities. Deutsch's clients include Burger King, Snapple, Coors, DIRECTV, Mitsubishi Motors, Bank of America and Expedia.

Previously he served as strategic advisor to MTV Networks, focused on their next generation digital music, strategic partnership and convergence strategy. Additionally, Heilprin is working in partnership with MTV Networks to establish a new venture, "Blast!factory," which allows consumers to create customized DVD compilations.

In the spring of 1999, J.D. Heilprin co-founded RioPort, a leading digital audio service provider, serving as executive vice president and general manager, in addition to establishing and running the company's Los Angeles operation. While at RioPort, Heilprin was the key strategist behind the design and implementation of RioPort's consumer and business initiatives, in addition to all company marketing programs. Heilprin was also responsible for forging RioPort's key strategic and equity relationship with MTV Networks, making RioPort MTV's exclusive partner for the delivery of digital music to users on all of MTV's online properties. At RioPort, Heilprin led the company's effort to aggregate content from leading music and spoken word providers, personally initiating, establishing and managing business relationships with the five major recording and distribution companies; numerous independent music labels and distributors, such as Jive/Zomba, Dreamworks, Hollywood Records, Edel, KnitMedia and KTEL International; and a plethora of spoken word providers, including Random House, Simon & Schuster, Books on Tape, Recorded Books, Harper Collins, Time Warner Audio Books, Franklin Covey, Audible, Publishing Mills, MediaBay and MP3Lit.com (now Salon Audio), among others. Heilprin also forged and directed RioPort's strategic alliances with world-class corporate e-tail customers, including the MTVi Group, Ministry of Sound (UK), House of Blues and BOLT.com, to utilize RioPort's e-commerce solution. Heilprin also played a key role player in securing and managing partnerships with many industry-leading technology providers, including Microsoft, InterTrust, Reciprocal, Magex, and Liquid Audio.

Prior to joining RioPort, Heilprin was vice president of media & entertainment at iXL, a leading global consulting firm. At iXL, he was charged with overall responsibility for iXL's music and music-related clients, including artists such as Alanis Morissette, Marilyn Manson and the Warped Tour music and sports touring festival. In addition, he advised record labels Universal Records and Almo Sounds, online retailer Wherehouse, consumer electronics retailer Best Buy and music/youth-oriented retailer Hot Topic, and entertainment companies such as Reciprocal, a2b Music and Liquid Audio, and entertainment information provider Muze. Preceding iXL, Heilprin founded Modern Feed & Supply, a new media content developer and consultancy, specializing in the convergence of traditional entertainment, interactive content creation, sponsorship, marketing and promotion.

Heilprin served as a strategic advisor to advertising agencies, marketers, fashion companies, hotel operators, record companies and studios. During this time, he also developed and oversaw implementation of all technology initiatives related to the Internet and America Online presentation of the Vans Warped Tour, working with such companies as Ticketmaster, America Online, MTV, RealNetworks, SonicNet, as well as national sponsorship programs with major consumer marketers, including Coke, Gatorade, Sony Playstation and Pioneer Electronics, among others. In 1997, Heilprin formed a joint venture with San Francisco-based Prophet Communications, later merging with Frog Design. Prior to Modern Feed & Supply, Heilprin held positions with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Western International Media (now Western Initiative Media Worldwide), the early interactive television start-up Interactive Network and national law firm Arter & Hadden. Heilprin frequently serves as a panelist for high-profile conferences focused on the convergence of the technology, entertainment and marketing industries. Over the past several years, he has addressed audiences at events such as Digital Hollywood, CMJ Music Marathon, NARM, NetSounds, MIDEM, Gavin.com's "Music on the Net" and Webnoize, among others.

In October 1999, Heilprin served as one of three industry expert presenters for the U.S. Congressional briefing "Digital Audio: Who Owns the Music," which provided lawmakers with an analysis of the burgeoning digital audio market, including the impact of technology on the music industry and copyright issues. Heilprin is often quoted in major industry news stories, and has been profiled in numerous digital music industry pieces in publications such as Billboard, Hollywood Reporter, Gavin and Revolution. Additionally, he was named one of the most influential people in the Internet industry by Digital Coast Reporter (Jan. '00), one of the Internet industry's top interactive marketers by Advertising Age (Nov. '99) and one of the leading people in digital audio by Hits Magazine (Aug. '99). In addition to his work within the business sector, Heilprin also parlays his expertise and experience to educating students and new media enthusiasts on the opportunities and implications surrounding the convergence of new media and traditional business. In fall 1999 and 2000, Heilprin instructed students in the class "Music Revolution: New Media, New Paradigm," which specifically addresses the evolving impact of digital technology on the music industry through the UCLA Extension Program in Los Angeles, CA.

Heilprin holds a law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and is a magna cum laude graduate of UCLA.
