Why Participate?
The purpose of the Precision Medicine Project is to understand why people respond differently to the same medication. We focus on how our genetic make-up and our environment affect how we respond to medications. The University of Montana has been working with the CSKT Tribal Health Department for over 10 years to understand how precision medicine can improve the health of CSKT people. Our projects may help Tribal Health doctors chose the right medication for a patient based on their unique genetics and diet. All research is approved by the CSKT Tribal Council and Tribal Health Department.
We are not currently enrolling for research participation, but please check back for future opportunities!
Recently Completed
We completed recruitment for our study assessing Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes participant views about pharmacogenetic research use as a tool to guide personalized treatment for tobacco cessation. Results from future research in this area may inform Tribal Health providers about which tobacco cessation approaches may be the best therapeutic option for their patients.
Thank you so much to the 270+ CSKT participants. This study is in collaboration with other research groups and tribal nations. Your contribution will help inform researchers and tribal health providers on pharmacogenetic guided therapies for tobacco cessation in CSKT patients and beyond.
We have informational brochures available upon request, and a publication is forthcoming.
Please email precisionmedicine@umontana.edu or call 406-282-1283 for more information about this project and future studies with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
