UM Ice Rink & Fire Pits

About

Winter on the University of Montana's Oval brings much fun and excitement. From ice skating to sitting by a crackling fire in the Adirondacks we invite you to come and enjoy all we have to offer.

Skating on the Oval is a beloved winter tradition. Weather and conditions depending, we invite folks to enjoy a skate. UM's Ice Rink is a community, self-monitored ice rink.

Returning as well, are the propane fire pits with Adirondack chairs for individual or group enjoyment. Fire pits will be lit Monday's 5:00pm-7:00pm and Wednesday's 12:00pm-2:00pm for free public usage starting Dec. 5th - Dec. 16th and returning Jan. 16th through early spring.

Community Standards for Our Self-Monitored Rink

At UM, we recognize the transforming experiences that students have outside of the classroom are just as important as the learning that happens inside the classroom. We want our students - along with the campus and Missoula communities - to safely engage in making memories, building connections, and being a part of the Griz Family. So, we ask you to follow the Ice Rink & Fire Pit Rules and be respectful partners in this endeavor.

All skaters are encouraged to maximize your experience here and have fun! However, we insist that all skaters practice safe and courteous skating. If you are a good skater, help to make others better skaters, watch your speed, stay in control and have fun! We have a zero tolerance for any on or off ice activities that disrupt or may lead to unsafe and dangerous situations. Please use common sense at all times, and keep in mind this is a rough surface pond style rink.

The use of the ice-skating rink and all its facilities have an inherent risk and any participation is totally at the users own risk. No responsibility is accepted or undertaken for the well-being of the user or their property.
