Policy Research and Analysis

Through AIGPI, expert-level multidisciplinary research is conducted by Montana University System scholars who are enlisted to work on specific projects according to the policy area(s) requested by tribal governments. Research is also conducted by student consultants under the guidance of UM’s core AIGPI-affiliated faculty. These students take part in a practice-based curricular opportunity that enables them to actively research, analyze and develop recommendations concerning a wide range of tribal-level policies and issue areas.

AIGPI research is disseminated to tribal policymakers in the form of reports, briefs, statements and presentations. Whenever appropriate, AIGPI research also informs the development of accompanying legal documents (such as tribal codes, ordinances, and intergovernmental agreements, among other items) created in collaboration with students and faculty in UM’s nationally-recognized Alexander Blewett III School of Law Margery Hunter Brown Indian Law Clinic. All materials created through AIGPI are stored in AIGPI’s free online database where they can be accessed by tribal leaders and the general public.

AIGPI does not conduct feasibility studies or offer generalized consulting services.
