Campus Recreation Youth Camps Counselor In Training
The Counselor In Training (CIT) program is designed for young adults entering 7th – 9th grade in Fall 2023. CITs are typically former campers who would like the opportunity to continue participating in Campus Rec Youth Camps in a leadership role, assisting Camp Counselors with camper activities. These young adults will acquire invaluable new leadership and mentoring skills that will assist them in their future endeavors. Throughout the summer, CITs will have the opportunity to interact daily with counselors, instructors, and children. In addition, each CIT will be partnered with a college-aged mentor who will work with your teen on skills such as problem-solving, effective communication, leadership, and teamwork.
What duties will CITs be responsible for?
- Ensuring a safe, positive, and fun environment for all campers.
- Attending and participating in a pre-camp staff training (week of June 5-9, specific days and times are TBD).
- Assisting with setting up fields and courts for scheduled sports.
- Leading various drills and activities for different sports.
- Picking up all sports equipment and trash at the end of activities.
What makes me qualified to be a CIT?
- Previous experience as a camper in the Campus Rec Youth Camps or another similar camp.
- Genuine interest in school-age children and concern for their well-being.
- Available during work hours and training dates.
- General knowledge of a variety of sports and other recreational activities.
What is the time commitment for CITs?
- We ask that the selected CITs commit to a minimum of two weeks of service (80 hours).
- CITs must also be available for training during the week of June 5-9 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
How much does the CIT program cost?
- One-time fee of $100 plus $50/week.
How do I get started?
- All prospective CITs must fill out a job application and come in for an interview with the Camp Director and Assistant Directors. This is designed to give these young adults invaluable experience and a look into common practices as they move forward into their High School careers and future job interviews.
