K-12 Teacher Librarian Endorsement (Library Media & Information Technology)
The K-12 Teacher Librarian program is offered fully online and can be completed at the undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate level. All courses are taught online through either the UM-Missoula campus or the UM-Western campus. This 25-27 semester credit program consists of courses in children's literature, young adult literature, reference resources, libraries and technology, collection development, administration and assessment, technical processes, information literacy, and a practicum.
Early Childhood Education Endorsement
The Early Childhood Education Endorsement program options include an undergraduate minor for students currently enrolled in the Elementary Education program and a graduate program for licensed elementary teachers. The programs are designed to meet Montana’s new requirement for the P-3 Early Childhood endorsement for all public school preschool teachers.
In addition, the program serves students who are interested in enhancing their knowledge and skills specific to teaching in the early grades in a variety of settings including public elementary schools, Head Start programs, or community-based preschool programs.

Special Education Endorsement
The primary purpose of Special Education is to individualize educational instruction in order to meet the unique educational and related needs of individuals with disabilities. The Special Education Endorsement Program at the University of Montana is designed to prepare teachers to work with children who are at-risk and children with disabilities in inclusive Preschool-12th grade (P-12) settings.
Literacy/Reading Endorsement
Literacy Studies offers the State of Montana Reading Specialists K-12 Endorsement for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students. At the undergraduate level, teacher education candidates must have full admission to the Teacher Education Program prior to applying for the Reading Specialists K-12 Endorsement. Licensed teachers may apply for this endorsement as post-baccalaureate students. Prospective graduate students apply for the Master of Education in Literacy Education that includes required reading endorsement courses.
