Faculty Resources

UM’s Faculty Senate approved High Impact Practice definitions and attributes to better identify and support high-impact courses.

How Can I Integrate HIP's into my Courses or Student Programming?

Faculty are encouraged to incorporate HIPs into relevant courses and attach the corresponding course attribute via platforms like CourseDog or CourseLeaf. This attribute aids UM in tracking and supporting HIP courses. For training or individual consultations on integrating HIPs into curricula, contact Experiential Learning & Career Success at melissa.dadmun@mso.umt.edu.

UM has adopted 10 Career Readiness Competencies. Linking curricular learning objectives to career readiness competencies is essential to students' classroom and workforce success. Faculty play a vital role in tomorrow-proofing our students by weaving curricular learning outcomes and career readiness competencies into course syllabi to make in-and-out-of-classroom education seamless.

Integrate career readiness into course syllabi that connect specific learning objectives and/or assignments to career-readiness skills, as well as language to connect students to ElevateU, career fairs, and Handshake (a platform for students to connect to jobs, internships and volunteering).

Quick ideas to get started:

ELCS offers engaging presentations on various career-related topics to ensure students are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in their chosen professions.

The RISE: Career Competency Reflection tool can be used for your students to reflect on their classroom and out-of-the-classroom learning. RISE reflective questions invite contemplation on how your student's academic studies and experiential learning connect to their career competencies necessary to elevate their professional brand and help them succeed in today's ever-evolving workforce.

Put your students at the heart of trying something new. Career prototypes can be a conversation with a faculty, attending a career fair, or participating in an internship. Shared is a list of short- to long-term projects that enable your students to inform themselves of their future career decisions. Help students develop plans to prototype (test out) career pathways.
