Right after graduating with my journalism degree, I spent the summer at the Denver Post as a design and graphics intern. I learned so much and loved exploring a new city and state. I then decided to move to Berlin, where I had first visited during my Franke GLI “Beyond the Classroom” experience, to attend a coding boot camp to add some web development skills to my journalism and design experience.
A year later, after navigating visas, housing, banking and bureaucracy in a foreign language and country, I got officially settled in Berlin and dove into learning web development. I learned full stack web development alongside people from all over the world who found themselves in a similar situation: living in a new city, working 10+ hour days, attempting to speak German and learning so many coding concepts that at night we would dream in JavaScript, Node, React and CSS.
I joined Berlin's startup and tech scene as a junior front-end developer at a local company. I work on web design, development and some data visualizations. I love being able to hear my colleagues speak languages like German, Italian, Russian and Spanish around me at work.
