Immunology Curriculum
Coursework providing a good basis in Immunology is a key component of Immunology training at the University of Montana.
Program Prerequisites
Students must meet the qualification standards for the individual BMED or IMB graduate programs. Students are also expected to have successfully completed an unergraduate immunology course prior to applying for the Ph.D. degree. However, interested students can be provisionally accepted pending completion of BIOB 410 Immunology with a B or better during the first semester in residence.
Program Requirements
Students will be required to complete the requirements of the program to which they are admitted - IMB or BMED. Students must complete 60 semester credits in residence. At least 10 semester credits must be taken from the Immunology Track Core curriculum.
There is no set curriculum for students within the immunology track. An individualized curriculum will be designed in consultation with the faculty mentor and thesis advisory committee. Immunology and immunology-related courses inlcude:
- BIOM 502 (3 cr.): Advanced Immunology
- BIOM 509 (3 cr): Advanced Virology
- BIOM 540 (3 cr): Microbial Pathogenesis
- BCH 595 (3 cr); Advanced Cell Biology
- BCH 486 (3 cr): Biochemistry Research Laboratory
- BCH 600/BMED 600: Advanced Cellular Biochemistry
- BMED 495 (3 cr): Immunopharmacology
- BMED 643 (3 cr): Cell and Molecular Toxicology
- BMED 644 (3 cr): Immunotoxocology
- BMED (3 cr): Mucosal Immunology
Students will also be required to attend and participate in BMED 657/MICB 595 Topics in Immunology course each semester in residence. A maximum of 2 semester credits from this course can be applied to the required 10 units of immunology coursework.
