The MPH in Community Health and Prevention Sciences (CHPS) degree leads to a 42-credit graduate degree that is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and prepares students for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential.
Students are prepared to work in a variety of careers in the public and private sectors, including community organizations, hospitals, universities and state or local health departments. The CHPS concentration is one of two MPH degrees offered at UM. Coursework includes a blend of on-line and on-campus courses, while the program is designed using a cohort model to serve in-person and (mostly) full-time students who want an on-campus experience that provides opportunities to engage with student peers and work collaboratively with faculty mentors.
Graduate research assistantship positions are offered on a competitive basis when they are available through faculty research grants or collaborations with community partners. Applicants should indicate interest in being considered for funding opportunities within their application statement of interest.
