Course Drop Deadlines: Autumn 2026

The University of Montana's deadlines for dropping classes in the spring semester are posted on this page. Students are responsible for adhering to all published registration deadlines. 

How to Drop Classes 

(If you are dropping all of your classes or your last remaining class, use the semester withdrawal form and deadlines instead.)

Open Registration Period

Through Sep. 14: Go to GrizPortal → Registration Card → Registration and Edit Your Class Schedule → Register for Classes. Course drops generate refunds where applicable.

Late Request Period

Sep. 15 - Oct. 27: Submit request in GrizPortal → Registration Card → Course Add, Change, Drop.

  • Instructor and advisor approval is required.
  • Drop request is subject to a $20 fee and no refund.
  • W grade is recorded on transcript.

Oct. 28 - Nov. 30: Submit request in GrizPortal → Registration Card → Course Add, Change, Drop.

  • Instructor, advisor, and dean approvals are required.
