Student Involvement & Leadership
Students play an important role in the School of Social Work community. BSW and MSW students can connect with peers, join student organizations, serve on School committees, and engage with faculty and School leadership.
Opportunities may vary by academic year. Current students receive information about available opportunities, meetings, and participation through School communications.
Social Work Club
The Social Work Club is open to University of Montana social work students. It offers opportunities to connect with peers, build community, advocate for student needs, and participate in social work-related activities and School community events. Participation may include both in-person and virtual opportunities.
For current information about the Social Work Club and how to get connected, contact the School of Social Work at social.work@mso.umt.edu.
Student Leadership Opportunities
Students may have opportunities each year to serve on School committees and contribute their perspectives to faculty evaluation and other School processes.
Student Evaluation Committee
The Student Evaluation Committee provides students with an opportunity to participate in the faculty evaluation process. Student members review student evaluation feedback and contribute to reports that are considered as part of the University's faculty evaluation process.
Faculty Evaluation Committee
A student representative may also serve on the Faculty Evaluation Committee alongside faculty members. The student role helps support student voice and contributes to the committee's review of faculty evaluation materials and procedures.
Committee opportunities and participation needs may change from year to year. Current students are notified when positions are available.
Chats with the Chair
Chats with the Chair provide students with informal opportunities to connect with School leadership, ask questions, share feedback, and discuss issues that are important to the student community.
Dates, meeting formats, and access information are shared with current students during the academic year.
Starting a Student Group
Students interested in creating a new group are encouraged to connect with classmates and peers who share a common interest and identify a faculty or staff member who can serve as an advisor.
Student organizations may seek recognition through the Associated Students of the University of Montana (ASUM). ASUM manages student group recognition, policies, funding, and related resources through Griz Hub.
