A Letter from Jeff Adams, Director of Curry Health Center

Dear Students,

In our ongoing efforts to safeguard the health and wellness of our community, the University of Montana has been closely monitoring the recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa and the reported cases in Texas.  We are also asking members of the University of Montana community to take appropriate steps to prevent the spread of Influenza.

EBOLA

Let me be clear: There have been no confirmed cases of Ebola on our campus or in the western United States. 

While the risk of contracting Ebola in the U.S. is extremely low, it is important to remain vigilant. In the case of Ebola, we are:

  • guided by the Center for Disease Control in developing our protocols;
  • monitoring the travel of our community and stand prepared to provide information, education, and support when indicated;
  • collaborating with local hospitals that have the ability and capacity to respond, if necessary; and we are
  • staying closely connected to the Missoula City-County Health Department to assure a coordinated local response.

INFLUENZA

While Ebola has been dominating the news and many of our thoughts, Curry Health Center at the University of Montana reminds you that Influenza poses a more significant health risk to our community at this time. 

Careful hand hygiene -- the first step to prevent Ebola listed by the CDC on their website -- will also help to prevent the spread of Influenza. And for Influenza, we are fortunate to have a vaccine. Flu shots are available through the Curry Health Center Pharmacy, an appointment is not needed.  The pharmacy is open Monday – Friday from 9 -5.
