Community Description

The Indigenous First Year Living Learning Community (LLC) is focused on programming, community, and support for Indigenous students in their first year at the University of Montana.  The LLC is linked to students who are also enrolled in the Indigenous First Year Experience (IFYE) seminar that provides tutoring, community building, mentorship, cultural activities, and monthly financial support.  The programming of the IFYE and the LLC aids in the retention of Indigenous students and supports them in their transition to the University of Montana. 

Housing Location

The Indigenous First Year Living Learning Community will be located in Miller Hall.  

How to Apply

To qualify to live in the Indigenous First Year LLC, students must be enrolled in the Indigenous First Year Experience (IFYE) and submit a Residence Hall housing application indicating their wish to live in the LLC. Housing assignment priority is determined by the application complete date. Applications received after the first round of assignments in the beginning of April will continue to be assigned to the Indigenous First Year LLC until the rooms are full. 

To Change Application Preferences:

Prior to March 15, if a student has already applied to housing and is interested in this community, they can update their LLC preferences in their application in their myHousingPortal as long as it is before room assignments for the following fall have begun.

Room assignments for fall generally begin in April of the preceding spring. Once assignments begin, you are not able to update your application yourself. 

• If you are assigned a room - changing your application preferences will not change your room assignment. If you are interested in moving into the LLC after you have already been assigned a room for the fall semester, you will need to sign up on the summer waitlist which will be available in your myHousingPortal. The summer waitlist generally opens in July.
• If you have not been assigned - you can contact Housing to see if we can update your LLC preferences before you are assigned a room. Please note that once room assignments begin in April they are done on a continuous basis. If you want to update your preferences and have not been assigned a room, contact our office right away so we can try to update your request before the next round of assignments are made.
