Events
In addition to being a great academic support group and nice opportunity to have fun with other budding linguists and those with an interest in ESL/EFL, indigenous languages, and language in general, we host colloquiums on various topics in linguistics and feature presentations from not only both students and our esteemed faculty, but also from distinguished scholars outside UM. Other events include film screenings, games, bowling and other activities, parties and potlucks. Come on by!

Linguistics Club Social
This Thursday, we decided to organize a small and casual meeting where we can all come together, unwind, and enjoy each other's company. We've arranged for snacks to keep us fueled and ready for socializing!
There won't be a strict agenda for the evening. Instead, we'll have the freedom to hang out, work on homework together in a supportive environment, listen to some great music, and engage in any linguistic (or non-linguistic) topics that pique our interest. Whether you're passionate about phonology, syntax, semantics, or anything in between, there will be plenty of opportunities to share your thoughts and ideas with fellow club members.
Feel free to bring any materials or projects you're working on if you'd like feedback or just some company while you tackle them. And of course, if you simply want to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, that's perfectly fine too!

Conlang Workshop
Here's some food for thought: if you could create your own language from scratch, what kind of features would it have? Would it have evidentiality, or tones, or reduplication?
Turns out you CAN build your own language from scratch - and we here in the Linguistics Club have folks who can teach you how to do it! Get set up with a basic toolkit that will enable you to invent a language of your own, and learn about some of the better-known conlangs (Elvish, Klingon, Esperanto)!
Anybody who is interested in conlangs is welcome to participate. Come as you are and don't be worried if you're still new to linguistics. :)
