Attention Incoming Freshman and New Students

Welcome to The University of Montana! We hope you are looking forward to your experience at UM and that you are planning to enhance it with an exciting season with the Grizzly Marching Band! Not only is the band open to all students on the UM Campus and Missoula College, as a new student you will enjoy many advantages such as early dorm move-in (avoiding the crowds of opening weekend), the opportunity to meet over 130 new friends before school even begins, as well as the ever-popular GMB scholarship ($1,000) to help get you through your first semester on campus. What a great way to begin your UM experience!

In the spring of 2024, I will be sending out an email newsletter with information about the 2024 season to all GMB members. It will contain information about the coming season, along with important details pertaining to your early move-in options, summer orientation suggestions, and registration and marching band camp information. THE GMB PRE-SEASON MARCHING BAND CAMP WILL BE HELD August 18 - 23, 2024 and is mandatory for all GMB members.

If you are not already a member of the band, your confirmation will be due by AUGUST 15, 2024 in order to ensure you receive any additional information before the season begins. Early Move-In/Orientation

If you are planning to live on campus during the 2023-24 academic school year, have been assigned to a UM residence hall and are going to be a member of the 2023 Grizzly Marching Band you will not have to worry about how marching band camp and UM orientation will work.  We work closely with the orientation office to ensure that you are able to do camp and your essential orientation meetings during that week. You will probably get some conflicting information about orientation but rest assured that I am in contact with them and have made all the necessary arrangements.  You will come to camp with us and we'll make sure that you are able to attend the necessary orientation events.  The rest of the time you will be with us, preparing for our first performance.  

Registration Information

The Grizzly Marching Band is a class and qualifies for general elective credit towards your degree. The class meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:00-5:30pm and includes Saturday performances (home Griz games). Course registration numbers can be found in your course guide or on the registration website.  The course number for Marching band is  MUSI 155A for Freshman and Sophomores (or those needing an Arts general ed. class) and MUSI 355 for Juniors and Seniors.  Scheduling this class can be taken care of at your orientation session. Make sure to tell your advisor that you wish to be a member of the 2023 Grizzly Marching Band. You MUST be registered for the class in order to receive the scholarship.
