Outreach

tourMontana school students enjoy a tour of the 1st floor display area.

Tours

Exhibits showcasing a small portion of the UMPC’s diverse fossil collection are located on the 1st and 3rd floors of the Charles H. Clapp Building located on the University of Montana campus in Missoula. Guided tours of UMPC facilities, including the fossil collection, are available to school groups and the general public by appointment only.  These exhibits are also open to the public (self-guided tour) during normal University hours (8am-5pm, Monday – Friday).

Volunteer

A volunteer program is available to students and non-students, ages 16 and older.  Volunteers assist the Collections Manager with daily duties, including inventory, photography, and preparation.  Prior knowledge/experience in geology, biology, or paleontology is encouraged, but not required.

Fossil Show and Tell

Off campus presentations with a variety of fossils, including dinosaurs fossils, are available upon request for public events and classroom visits.  These presentations will have an educator and a “show-n-tell” style display of fossils.  Past events include the KBGA Family Fun Fair and various public school Science Nights.

Fossil Identification

Need something identified? IDs can be done in person or through email. Please email information on where your specimen was collected and photos with a scale (like a ruler).  In person IDs are by appointment only.

Please contact the Collections Manager for more information regarding fossil identifications and presentations, as well as volunteering with the UMPC.
