Meet the Team!

Ryan Aikin - Director of Legal Services 

Ryan joined ASUM as legal director in 2023. He is a native of Pittsburgh, PA, and a 2011 graduate of the George Washington University Law School. Prior to joining ASUM, he was in private practice in Missoula focusing on criminal defense and civil rights litigation. He has previously worked as an attorney for the Montana Public Defender, the Montana Department of Justice, and the United States Navy.

Layla Turman - Attorney

Layla joined ASUM Legal Services in 2023. Layla is a Wyoming native who has made Missoula her home for nearly two decades. She obtained both her undergraduate and law degree from the University of Montana. Layla began her career as an attorney for ASMSU Legal Services at Montana State University and went on to practice civil litigation, family law, and mediation. Outside of work, Layla enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, knitting, and rowing boats while others fish from them.

Olivia Destiche - Legal Assistant

Olivia has made Missoula her home for the last decade. She graduated from U of M in 2021 after studying Sociology, Gender Studies, and Nonprofit Administration. At night you can often find her working at the Kettlehouse Amphitheater or the Wilma. When she's not at a concert, she's probably home watching a horror movie and cuddling with her dogs.

Skyler Anderson - Legal Intern

Skyler is a native Montanan, born and raised on her family's farm in Fairfield, Montana. Upon graduating with a marketing degree, she worked for various marketing agencies and professional sports teams. When the time was right, she decided to come home for law school and will graduate in May 2024 with a Juris Doctorate and a Masters in Business Administration.

Sam Johnston - Legal Intern

Sam was born and raised in Montana. He enjoys spending his summers outside and on the lake, and in the winter he enjoys skiing at many of Montana's ski resorts. He looks forward to being an advocate and serving this state in the future during his legal career.

Natalie Vazquez-Lopez - Legal Intern

Natalie was born and raised in Eastern Washington. After visiting the University of Montana campus, Natalie's decision to attend UM Law came easy. She is now in her third year of law school and plans to return to Tri-Cities, Washington to begin her practice in civil litigation upon graduation.
