Faculty/Staff International Liaison Position
Both faculty and staff may serve as international liaisons. Each College/School should have at least one liaison. Large Colleges or Schools may require more than one liaison. The International Liaison Subcommittee recommends that each College/School Dean works with their College/ School how to fill the International Liaison position.
Liaisons should have or be willing to develop:
- Knowledge of UM international programs
- A working relationship with Global Engagement Office staff
- Cross-cultural communication skills
Primary Responsibilities of International Liaisons
- Serve as initial point of contact for international and domestic students, scholars, faculty, and staff interested in international opportunities;
- Assist domestic students in verifying study abroad transfer credits; and
- Communicate with potential international partners
Additional responsibilities
- Serve as the primary advisor for incoming exchange (non-degree-seeking) international students for the college
- Serve as a liaison to the college and faculty within the college for academic/administrative matters pertaining to international programs
- Help to establish course equivalencies with the partner institution whenever possible
- Participate in available training
