One Digital Identity Project

Project Overview

The UM IT Identity Management Team has launched a project to simplify all of an individual's accounts so they will have a single login using a new service, Okta. The goal is one digital identity for each person associated with the University and to eliminate the need for multiple sets of credentials per individual. This project supports UM Strategy's Annual Playbook Objective 8.3 "Implement One Digital Identity". Additionally, as part of this effort, UM IT Leadership is releasing our Standard Account Management Policies.

The implementation of Okta will result in a simplified experience for all individuals accessing University of Montana affiliated applications and services. A person will no longer be required to remember multiple sets of credentials and which applications they apply to. Any application will be accessible via the Okta Dashboard, and no matter which site you are accessing, your username and password will be the same.

State of Okta Implementation:

Current state:

You have multiple accounts and username formats to access services and applications at UM.

Interim state:

You will still have multiple accounts and username formats, including your Okta credentials. In this interim state, it is important to reference our application migration page (coming soon) if you are unsure about which credentials to use for a given service.

Future state:

You will have one user account to access services and applications at UM.
