UM Choirs
The registration form for Fall 2026 choral voice placements and auditions will be live at the end of July or beginning of August. If you are interested in singing with us, send Dr. Hirner an email, and she will reach out when the forms are live (stevie.hirner@umt.edu). Learn more about the voice placement process at the UM Choirs Homepage.
The UM School of Music offers two large choral ensembles:
- University Choir (T,Th 12:30-1:50)
- University Choir is a non-auditioned, mixed-voice ensemble of sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. The group performs a variety of repertoire spanning multiple time periods, cultures, and styles.
- Participation in University Choir only requires a voice placement so that singers can be placed into the correct section in the ensemble. This is NOT an audition!
- Chamber Chorale (MWF 1:00-2:20)
- Chamber Chorale is an advanced, auditioned, mixed-voice ensemble of sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. The group performs a variety of challenging repertoire spanning multiple time periods, cultures, and styles.
- Participation in Chamber Chorale requires a more rigorous audition process following the Voice Placement Appointment. Additional information is provided at that time.
- Students who are selected for Chamber Chorale commit to participating for BOTH the Fall and Spring semesters.
