Americans with Disabilities Act Award

The ADA Award honors individuals whose important contributions advance education and employment opportunities for people with disabilities at UM. Award recipients demonstrate commitment and perseverance to overcome challenges, continually set a high standard of excellence by honoring the importance of civil rights laws, and create broad and lasting contributions in support of UM's commitment to accessibility. The award comes with a $500 prize.

Denise May, Lead Sign Language Interpreter, Office for Disability Equity 

Previous winners include Amy Capolupo, Dan Bowling, Amy Stout, Jameel Chaudhry, Jennifer Schaffer Closson, Janet Sedgley, Barb Seekins, Bernadine Gantert and President George M. Dennison.

Who is eligible:
All UM faculty and staff.

Who may nominate:
Any member of the University community, including students.  

Nomination requirements:

  • Please use the link below to submit a nomination
  • Letter of no more than two pages addressing why the nominee meets the intent of the award.
  • 1-3 letters of recommendation

Selection process:
Selection is made by a special committee of ADA Team members.
