Transferology

What Is Transferology?

Transferology is a nationwide network designed to help college students explore their transfer options. Its goal is to save students time and money by providing a quick, intuitive way of getting their college transfer credit questions answered.

Students can answer the question “Will my courses transfer?” by adding coursework, exams, and/or military learning experiences to see how many schools in the Transferology network have matching courses that may be awarded when they transfer. They can also find out what their options are for taking classes over the summer (or whenever) at another school to transfer back to their current school by using the “Find a Replacement Course” feature.

Create an account and view information for free on the Transferology.

Please remember to talk to your academic advisor about your transfer credits if you have any questions about major, minor, certificate, and general education requirements, and visit your Degree Works portal for a degree audit.

How do I use Transferology?

  • Create a free account, then choose a path. Select "Will My Courses Transfer" to see how your courses will transfer. Add your courses, click "Search for Matches," and view the results. You can also use "Find a Replacement Course" to find courses you could take at other schools to transfer back to the University of Montana.
  • You can also inform schools of your interest in transferring by asking about specific programs, campus visits, veterans services, financial aid, and advising.

Can Transferology show me how my courses will transfer?

  • Yes, you can import courses to find matches and see how they may transfer to UM.
  • If your course doesn’t appear to have a match (is listed as a “maybe”), you can send the course to our Evaluation Center by clicking on the “Contact School for More Information” link and request your course equivalencies.

Why do my matches end in TR1NL (or some other number and letter)?

  • This means there is not an exact match for your transfer course, and you’ve been awarded elective credit. Your transfer work will be reviewed by your academic advisor to determine if credit can be applied to specific program requirements.
  • The number refers to lower-division (100-200) or upper-division (300-400) level.
  • The letters refer to our general education categories. You can find a complete list of general ed codes on our General Education Worksheet and a list of UM general eds in our catalog.

What does a "Maybe" result mean?

  • This means those courses haven't been reviewed by our evaluation team yet, so the information is not in Transferology. You can request “maybe” courses be evaluated by clicking on the “Contact School for More Information” link.
