Change Student Insurance Selection
If you're taking 6 or more credits and paying the health service fee as part of your tuition, you’re required to have health insurance. This is a Montana University System policy meant to keep you healthy and focused on school.
Distance-only students may choose to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), even if they are not required by MUS to have health insurance and are not paying the Health Services Fee. To opt in, complete one of the 'Change Student Health Insurance' forms listed below.
Please note: if you do not also opt in to pay the Health Services Fee, SHIP can only be used with in-network Blue Cross Blue Shield providers in your local community and cannot be used at Curry Health Center.
You'll make your insurance selection each semester during registration in GrizPortal (listed as an Action Item).
After that initial choice is submitted, you can’t change it through GrizPortal. But if you need to update your selection, here’s how:
Before the 15th Class Day
You must complete the ‘Change Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Election Form’
After the 15th Class Day
Changes are only allowed in special situations and they require documentation and review.
To request a late change, complete the ‘Petition to Change Blue Cross Blue Shield Student Health Insurance Plan Election Form’
Both forms are processed within 3-5 business days.
